We love music in our house. Some mornings, when the kids are dragging or grumpy or just need a smile, I’ll look for fun songs on YouTube to help get everyone going. One day this week, I pulled up the Muppets’ Bohemian Rhapsody because, well, brilliant. And over on the side of the screen was a link to the movie Sing’s version of I’m Still Standing. That was our second song that day.
My littlest came to enjoy it next to me at the desk and sing along and she didn’t notice that the song brought tears to my eyes.
I’m still standin’
Better than I ever did.
Lookin’ like a true survivor
Feelin’ like a little kid….
I’m still standin’, yeah, yeah, yeah. (Original song by Sir Elton John)
For the past several months I’ve been struggling with how hard single parenting is. There is no end in sight. There is no cute prince on a white horse coming to do life with me and carry some of the load. At least not yet. And so, for now, it is all on me. Yes, I have incredible community that supports me. But the nitty-gritty details of parenting and manage a household are all mine.
